LED lighting penetration continues to grow

As more people begin to discover the benefits of LED lighting – like cost savings, energy-efficiency and durability – the technology continues to grow in popularity. In fact, LED lighting is becoming so commonplace that DIGITIMES research reports it could soon comprise more than one-fourth of all lighting.

According to the firm, LED lighting had reached a global penetration rate of 1.5 percent in 2009. In 2012 , that figure is 11.6 percent – and by 2014, it could be as high as 25.8 percent.

So what's causing LED lighting to more than double in just two years? Well, for one thing, it's becoming increasingly popular for use in municipal districts. It can save counties money when it's implemented in street lights, stoplights and other public spaces.

For another, LED lighting is great around the home. LED strip lights are the perfect way to add illumination to dark spaces, no matter how large or small. LED rope lights add a cool, relaxed mood to any room – and they're great outdoors, too. They can be strung up along patios, on decks and balconies or even in spaces like garages and sheds.

The trend is clear: LEDs are the lights of the future.
