LED lighting saves UC Merced big bucks
The University of California's newest campus at Merced is saving money by switching to LED lighting, reports the Sacramento Bee.
The school has installed an LED lighting system in its 3.5-acre North Bowl parking lot, a move that will save the campus some $3,500 each year in energy costs, assistant director of construction and sustainability Mark Maxwell tells the source.
LED lighting is "the most efficient way of producing light without heat," Maxwell adds. The system will also save energy by dimming when the parking lot is empty, and costs little to maintain.
LED lights aren't just great in industrial settings, however. They're also an excellent option for the home! Try setting up some LED strip lights in your garage for a safe, energy-efficient way to light your workspace, or string some up in your backyard to make nighttime trips simpler and easier.
