Genessee neon sign restored with LED lights
Many towns have their own traditions and symbols of the community, and signs often play a large role in representing the essence of a region. In Auburn, New York, the Genessee Beer neon sign that has stood atop the Mike Speno's music store serves this purpose.
Although it quickly became a popular beacon after being erected in 1952, Genessee was forced to allow the lights to fade in the 1970s due to high electricity costs, according to ABC affiliate 9WSYR.
"During that energy crisis, in that time period, there was a very very negative feeling and that was just one more thorn in your side," Speno told the news source. "It was depressing."
However, the sign received new life once Genessee decided to develop a new marketing campaign, highlighting the retro aspect of its product. Since then, $65,000 has been used to install energy-efficient LED lights into the sign. It is using half of the electricity as it previously did more than 30 years ago.
Many homeowners have already caught wind of the benefits of LED rope lights, string lights and bulbs. These alternatives to incandescent lights produce less heat and help conserve energy.

Great idea to use LED light !! Led lights and signs are making an impact on light saving!
