California city happy with LED lights

California city happy with LED lights

The city of Carpenteria, California, recently made the switch to LED lights – and the town couldn't be happier with the results.

In November of 2011, Carpenteria replaced all of the sodium-based bulbs in its decorative downtown street lamps with light-emitting diodes, casting a gorgeous, natural glow over the city's most popular areas.

And while the lights are certainly an attractive decorative decision, they offer a lot more than mere style points. LED lighting is also helping Carpenteria save 80 percent – or nearly $12,000 – on its annual energy bills.

"I like the results very much," said Matthew Roberts, director of Carpenteria's Parks and Recreation Department. "I think the consensus is that the new bulbs produce fewer glares, are easier on the eyes, and have a very appropriate color temperature for our needs."

If you're wondering what all the hype is about, why not try out LED lights yourself? LED rope lights make an excellent addition to any home. Try hanging them up in your entertainment center, or even in your front or back yard.

Ford stamping plant upgrades to LEDs

Ford stamping plant upgrades to LEDs

The Ford Motor Company stamping plant in Hamsburg, New York, recently received a lighting upgrade that left it brighter than ever before. With 1,740 new LED now lights illuminating the factory floor, Ford employees are basking in the glow, reports the Buffalo News.

The new LED lighting is not only easy to work by, it's also cost-efficient – an important benefit that can't be overlooked in an economy that's been anything but kind to American automakers. The LEDs are 70 percent more efficient than their metal-haloid predecessors, and will reduce Ford's energy usage by 10.7 million kilowatt-hours. Even running 24 hours a day, the lighting shouldn't need to be replaced for more than seven years.

"It's great lighting," plant manager David Buzo told the news source. "It kind of surrounds you, kind of engulfs you, and it gives you a clear picture of what you’re working around as far as your surroundings."

Great lighting is important to all hard workers, whether you're busy stamping auto parts or just crunching numbers in your home office. Luckily, LED lighting is available for homes as well as businesses, so you can enjoy light-emitting diodes wherever you go.

Try some LED rope lighting in your home office for a cool, soothing glow that's perfect to work by, or use some rope lighting in the bedroom for late-night reading.

Tracy, CA to install 4,218 LED streetlights

The city of Tracy, California, is planning to replace more than 4,000 municipally-owned sodium-based and mercury vapor streetlights with LED alternatives, reports New Streetlights.

The project, slated to begin later this year, will see 4,218 fixtures updated to light-emitting diodes. Once the replacements are complete, this northern California city will see at least a 50 percent reduction in energy costs – and that's not all.

Because LEDs are so durable, Tracy will also save on maintenance costs – the lights will likely not need replacement for a decade or more. Plus, the cool, natural light they give off will help keep the city illuminated both day and night.

LED lights are a great addition to any urban landscape, but they also make a beautiful addition to your home. LED rope lights look gorgeous strung through trees and bushes for a backyard soiree, or hung from the bedroom ceiling for a little mood lighting.
